University Of Canterbury Launches Master of Architectural Engineering

Jim Rutherford’s vision of an Architectural Engineering degree at Canterbury University became a reality with the launch of a new “Master of Architectural Engineering” degree – the first of it’s kind in New Zealand. Professor Larry Bellamy was appointed as the first Ada Rutherford Professor of Architectural Engineering and the first intake of students began.

The University Of Canterbury has established the Ada Rutherford Professorship in Architectural Engineering to support expanding the awareness, teaching, research and dissemination of architectural engineering. Jim Rutherford was an alumnus of the university whose professional and business career spanned more than 60 years in New Zealand and around the world. A $2.5 million endowment, made in memory of his mother Ada Rutherford, is Jim Rutherford’s legacy to the University of Canterbury.
